“Mommy! I can ride my own bike! I can’t believe I have my own bike!”

If you can say anything about Jack it’s that his enthusiasm is contagious. His highs swing to the mountain tops while his lows bring him to the darkest valley. But when he’s excited, you can’t help jump along with him.

“That’s so good Jack! Can I see you ride it?!” I squeal. (I’m sure I squeal. Jack gets his emotions from me.)

“Yeah! Yeah!” Jack scoops up his bike and begins to climb on with Papa arriving just in time to help Jack right himself as he begins to glide forward. Within moments, Papa is left behind as Jack’s feet catch the pedals in one fluid motion and he is off. My father-in-law jogs to keep up while Jack tears his way down the driveway. Laughter bursts from my throat and joy pours out of my  heart.

This is what I prayed for for six years. This is what I ached for, cried for, hoped for.

Family.

Laughter.

Home.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

This post is part of the larger Five Minute Friday community found on Kate Motaung’s blog. We write, for five minutes, together. No major edits. No second guesses, just writing to connect, to grow, to be. We would love to see you there. This week’s prompt: Dream.

One of my dreams, my prayer, has been fulfilled.

Thank you, Jesus.
