5minutefridayEvery Friday, Lisa-Jo Baker and writers across the web join Five Minute Friday for five minutes of writing on the word of her choice. There are no major edits, no second guesses, just five minutes to write. I join to grow as a writer. Sometimes I know I’ll be late (like this weekend), but here is this week’s Five Minute Friday.

small

I hear the word small and I think of little, of being little or feeling little. I think of being with my kids who are so little and hate being told, you’re too young. I think of myself, feeling little in social situations where I am uncertain, where I feel small.

But there is no small. No person is small. My kids are small in the sense that they should not try the monkey-bars by themselves, because they might get hurt, but their power goes beyond their size. I’m convinced their shouts and screams would go for miles if the wind could carry it. Their ability to love, to be excited, to be surprised or be disappointed bursts from their little hearts, showing feeling beyond their size.

There’s nothing small in them.

There’s nothing small in me. Even if I feel it.

Just as my children’s voice can carry, so does mine. I can speak and though the words may feel small, they have the ability to change lives. I may feel too small to make a significant influence in this world (I don’t have enough experience, I’m not well known, etc.), but that doesn’t stop God. I can see one life affecting another life affecting yet another until each person has been touched through the love begun by the first one.

There’s nothing small in that.

No. There’s no such thing as small.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.   – 1 Timothy 4:12
