I posted this picture on Instagram and Facebook on Sunday. While my Minnesota friends declared their devotion to my mug (It’s available on Amazon!!), my non-Minnesota friends wanted to know, “What does Uff da! even mean?”
For a technical definition of uff da, seek wikipedia. But for some examples from early motherhood when “uff da” can be appropriately stated with an exclamation or a sigh, keep reading.
All of these stories are true.
When the baby cluster-feeds for a week. (Uff Da)
When the toddler tells the baby to go back in mommy’s tummy. (Uff Da)
When the baby spits up down your shirt and it slides between your breasts. (Uff Da)
When the toddler poops in the potty-seat (yay!) and the dog eats the poop. (Uff Da)
When you run postpartum and pee yourself. (Uff Da)
When you sneeze postpartum and pee yourself. (Uff Da)
Basically when you jump, move fast, do anything that causes pressure on your belly postpartum and you pee yourself. (Uff Da)
When a multiple people insist you must be carrying twins because your pregnant belly is so large. (Uff Da)
When the store clerk asks when you’re due while you’re buying diapers for your baby who is sitting in the shopping cart. (Uff Da)
Colic. (Uff Da)
When you’re too big for pre-pregnancy jeans, but too small for maternity clothes. (Uff Da)
When your milk comes in and you’re 15 minutes from baby/pump. (Uff Da)
When the toddler is fascinated by you breastfeeding the baby and asks to eat some too. (Uff Da)
When the preschooler has the fifth potty regression of the year. (Uff Da)
When the toddler throws a tantrum in the middle of crossing a busy street because you insisted you hold his hand. (Uff Da)
When night wakings return after months of sleeping through the night. (Uff Da)
When someone (who shall remain unnamed) smears poop all over the couch, the toy kitchen, the walls, the bed, etc. etc. etc. (Uff Da)
When a stranger asks if you’re pregnant and reaches out to rub your soft postpartum belly. (Uff Da)
When acquaintances see your two boys and ask if you’ll “try for” a girl. (Uff Da)
When someone shares their horror stories of motherhood as you nurse your newborn son and you wonder what you just got yourself into. (Uff Da)
This is hilarious! Went between laughing and making an “ohhhhh noo” face. LOL
Haha! I’m so glad you liked it.
YEA!! And you’d do it all over again (and might, if you’re blessed with grandchildren!!)
Yes I would! Well, most of it. 😉
