Write 31 Days begins in 10 days and if you’re like me you are wondering, “Where did September go?!”
My September looked like this:
It began with first day of school, continued on to flooding in my parents basement, followed by packing, followed by anther first day of school, continued on to moving, followed by refinishing our floors, to a wedding weekend, to more flooding, to today.
Whew!!!
If I can make it through that I can make it through Write 31 Days. And so can you.
But here’s the thing, it might not go as we think.
We may go into the month expecting to be able to publish a 5 minute post every day. But we all know how those 5 minute posts turn into 50 minute posts. And those 500 words become 700.
And we ALL know how we can become dissatisfied and disillusioned with our work (if you haven’t been, don’t worry, you will). How the goals are too big, life is too difficult. We know what it’s like to compare, to put ourselves down, to doubt, worry, and fear.
Here is what I want you (and me) to remember:
You can only do what you can do.
You might be able to write a book.
You might be able to post photos.
You might be able to share Bible verses.
You might be able to do all of the above.
It is important to recognize what you can do and what you can’t. I have to ask myself now “What is realistic? Can I write 31 devotions in 31 days? Should I stretch out the study into November? Should some of my work be saved for the future ebook?” There are yeses and nos in there. Part of the discipline of writing and blogging is figuring these things out.
Oh, and one more thing:
Only you can do what you can do.
Paul wrote to the Galatians:
Your work is your work. Not the other mommy bloggers. Not the other Bible teachers. Not the other artists or counselors, or home schoolers. You are only responsible for that which you are called to do and can do.
And you are the only one who can do what you do.
You are the only one with your words.
You are the only one with your message.
You are the only one with your passion.
We need your voice.
So as you walk through this month, wading through flooding and soaring along easy days, remember: You are you. Don’t try to be someone else. Don’t compare. God doesn’t expect more from us, neither should we.
My plan for Write 31 Days is to go through the books of the Old Testament in a devotional format. I love the Old Testament, because of its stories, wisdom, prayers, and promises. I hope you join me. If you’re interested, simply subscribe to my website on the right.
Leah, great post! Such a good reminder as we head into October.
Leah! I LOVE LOVE LOVE—L.O.V.E. this post! God has been nudging (actually pushing) me to get back in the writing saddle where He wants me. I’ve been overwhelmed by life and well, feeling quite small and inadequate. But we can only do and need only do what we are called to do. Thank you so much for this stellar reminder! I’m in!
Oh friend, I’m so so happy to hear this. I look forward to your words. Bless you! Praying for you as you return.
I’m heaving a big sigh of gratitude for your reminder. Thank you for the warm encouragement.
I’m so so glad, Lea Ann. Bless you this month!
