I rarely pay attention to entertainment news anymore, but this week with the numerous accusations against Harvey Weinstein I almost couldn’t avoid it.

I wish I could say I was surprised.

I have no idea who this man is (though I’ve apparently seen many of his movies) and I am not surprised that a man in power has abused young women who are at his mercy. After all, I have heard stories from young women who have been taken advantage of by men in lesser states of power than he was. I have experienced harassment first hand by men and even peers who seemed to think it would be okay to treat me as lesser than they were.

I already told you why I think this is the state of the world, so I don’t want to revisit that.

What strikes me today is the lack of hope I have felt after so many courageous women (and some brave men) in my Facebook feed have stood up with the hashtag #metoo.

They have stood in solidarity against their attackers and have said, “I have been mistreated.” I believe in identifying #metoo, the majority has shouted, “You must pay attention! You must see what is going on! I will be seen!”

I pray that we have.

It is easy for me to become hardened to the pain of the world. To remain unsurprised and unmoved, because it feels like the same old story.

Today I choose to believe that things can be different. That there will be a movement of change. And I believe we will see that change among God’s people. In the church.

Alongside the terrible news in Hollywood, Willow Creek announced that they have hired a woman as Lead Pastor to take the place of Bill Hybels! As perhaps the most influential Evangelical church in America, this move is HUGE and I believe we will see a ripple across our country. (Read more, here) I love so much about this, I’m sure I will be returning to it.

Change is coming, friends. I choose Hope.
