Two weeks ago at Festival of Faith and Writing I was able to get together with Kate Motaung and many other online friends at Festival of Faith and Writing. We all had one thing in common: Five Minute Friday. Each of us had written alongside this five minute writing community on our blogs or in personal journals with either Kate or Lisa Jo Baker. The community facilitated by Kate and Lisa Jo encouraged us and inspired us as we began or re-engaged in our writing.
If you haven’t joined us, consider this your invitation.
Today’s writing prompt is: Pass. Five Minutes. No edits. No second guesses.
GO
After a week of rain, the earth has come alive today. Birds are chirping. Rabbits and squirrels are active. And the children are enjoying the sun.
Several years ago, a dear friend and I walked the streets of Denver admiring the flowers bursting through the soil. I was amazed at her ability to name each flower, to admire the beauty. We began to talk about the possibilities of owning our own homes, the dreams of being neighbors.
Now I have a home where I planted my own tulips 6 months ago. The leaves fell. The snow came and went. And now my tulips are here.
I honestly didn’t think they would grow.
Some of them seem to be struggling. I’m not sure why.
But there are a few that are pushing through. Overcoming poor soil, lack of sunlight, perhaps not enough water.
And these lovely yellow inherited tulips popped up in our front yard.
Beauty.
We are still in the season of Easter according to the liturgical calendar. Eastertide. For some reason, more than any other year, I am aware of the resurrected life around me. Perhaps it’s because we are in the midwest where life is literally blooming outside each window. Tulips in the front. A Redbud tree in the back. Green is everywhere.
Life is everywhere.
And as I drink it all in, I experience hope, renewal, possibilities.
Happy Spring everybody.
STOP
What is your favorite part of spring? Any favorite flowers blooming yet?
Love your beautiful garden and the graphic you made with the tulips! Here in Australia we are heading into winter but it sure doesn’t feel like it. I haven’t been very successful planting any flowers at all, only herbs.
Leah, love this! It finally feels like Spring has arrived here in North Dakota. Beauty and hope indeed!
Yea, Midwest!! I’m in southern Missouri, and my hibiscus (a native one) is once again faithfully pushing through less than “miraculous growing” soil! Your group of girls looks so fun. Blessings on your home and hope you are settling in to your new digs.
I was so glad to get to meet so many great folks at the Festival! It was a wonderful blessing!
I love daffodils and tulips! Spring is my very favorite season, everything waking up from winters sleep.
in the #30 and #32 spots this week.
I’m glad you had such a good time at the festival. It was rich with opportunity and people. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Leah, for the reminder that there is new life and hope in the spring. We’re just heading into winter here in Australia, so it’s good to remember that it will pass and spring will come again.
Yes it will!! Thanks for visiting my blog last weekend!
