Good morning, friend. How are you?
Yesterday was one of those days of clarity for me. A time when the light fell across the path and I saw the simplicity of the steps God has for me.
For months (perhaps years) I have had a lack of focus on my life. The change has been a big part of it, of course, but more than that it has come from my tendency to see all the possibilities and the lack of discernment on which is most important.
Yesterday though, yesterday it came down to this: I love moms.
I love moms who are struggling to figure out what they’re doing. Who are sacrificing sleep and a social life and even their beloved careers to care for their little ones.
I love moms who tenderly care for their little ones, but the next moment want to walk away because it is tiring.
I love moms who work hard at their jobs, growing in their gifts and abilities, while caring for the unending needs of their little ones.
I love moms who have stuck it through the hard early years and are now navigating the perils of education. They are discerning what their children need individually within the systems of public, private, or even home schools.
I love moms who are praying with their children before meals or bedtime, asking God’s grace to fill their days.
I love moms who strengthen their children’s wings which are bursting with gifts and abilities. Moms who notice the differences between themselves and their children, once again sacrificing their own desires to see their young ones take flight.
Moms are warriors. Heros. Lovers.
And moms are tired.
I love moms.
When I was picking my son up from preschool yesterday, I watched the parents arrive for their children. 90% were female. Dressed in yoga pants, jeans, and slacks, they rushed in through the cold and returned arms full of child. Their “break” over – a break which was probably spent grocery shopping and cleaning, cooking and working, because these are all easier while the little ones are away. Women who are pursuing their dreams in their field while managing life at home.
I love these women.
I wonder, How can I care for them best? How can I care for you best?
This is where I come to you with fear and trembling. I do not presume to know your needs, but I know a little.
I know moms are often overwhelmed, tired, and lonely. I know moms can struggle with anxiety, depression, and fear. We care for the souls of our little ones while we struggle to know how to care for ourselves.
I’m working on a book, Restoring Mama’s Soul, offering spiritual disciplines and practices that connect moms to God. But I’m always wondering if they would work for others as they have for me.
Here is my idea:
[Tweet “What if we had an online community where we can practice spiritual disciplines together?”]A place where mothers can explore the ancient (and new) spiritual practices together, seeing what works and what doesn’t while going about our days.
Each week I would provide the description of a practice and that week we would do that one practice together.
There are no expectations of how much, when, or how a mama practices.
There is only the desire to support and encourage one another in our walk with God.
What do you think? Are you in?
If so, feel free to join the Facebook Group I already created here.
Questions? Ask below or email me.
On twitter? I’m going to try to figure out a way to have a twitter party going each week. Or, if more people are on Facebook, then a Facebook party.
Ladies, I’m already excited for what God is going to do. I pray that as you consider joining us that God would bless you with His felt presence and gracious love.
FB’d and RT’d!!! You go for it, girl!! This is fabulous, and you are doing the most important job in the universe (as James Dobson used to say). Think also of the older women who are raising their grandchildren. Think of the single dads, and they are out there. Remember them in your prayers, but HURRAY for the young moms you’re going to reach. Your project is on my prayer list.
Thank you Dawn!! I appreciate your words of encouragement and sharing. We already have a great group of women who have joined and I am thrilled to get started together.
