By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
I’m doing Write 31 Days a little different than many bloggers: I have decided that I will not post on at least one day of the weekend.
Before the other bloggers gasp, please hear me out.
When I started at Denver Seminary 10 years ago, I completed my first week of school completely overwhelmed. Syllabus Shock is an understatement. I was already swamped in schoolwork, felt behind in my reading, terrified of at least one professor.
I reached Sunday morning at church and felt God sing over me: Rest. Don’t work. Cease and be.
The Sabbath is not holy because we make it holy, but because God calls it holy. Part of holiness is that it is set apart. Different. Our culture has a bad habit of running on empty. I can’t do that anymore.
We are leaning into God’s holiness when we rest.
I bet God invites you to rest, too. What’s one thing weighing on you? Can it wait a day? Put it down. Find restoration in a day – or an hour or two – off. My guess is it can wait until tomorrow.
Now, I rest.
Goodnight.
Leah, you are setting such a good example. It is so important for us to rest. I’m planning on taking some light time and only posting a video or something about grace on the weekends.
Thanks for your encouragement, Tara. I felt like I was doing something wrong when I decided to do this. Now I know once again it is the only way I’ll finish this challenge. I look forward to your words when I get a chance to read!
